I am proud to post square number 61, a great work created by Linelray, a student in Kristine Hatanaka's art class from the Culver City High School Academy of Visual and Performing Arts:

Many of you attended the March for Science this past weekend; I thought it would be appropriate to post this great square reflecting the Women's March back in January. It leads with the wonderful quote by Martin Luther King Jr.," There is no noise as powerful as the sound of the marching feet of determined people." So true!

I am showing this image larger than usual because I want you to read the quotes from the AP article (linked here to the Huffington post articles) that Elisa used in her work: "5-Year Old Boy, Jax Gets Same Haircut As His Friend so You Can't Tell Them Apart"..."The story of two 5-year old boys from Kentucky, one white and one black, is teaching people about racial harmony."  The children initially were playing a trick on their teacher, one getting the same haircut as the other, hoping the teacher couldn't tell them apart.  A great story!

Indivisible: Sharon Sekhon

I am very happy to post square number 58, another great work created by LA educator, historian and all-around terrific person, Sharon Sekhon:

This beautiful image reflects a common sight around Los Angeles -  the glorious rich-colored leaves or bracts of bougainnvilla taking over man-made structures. The flowers of this plant are very small, white little blossoms inside the bright bracts. Beauty is everywhere, when you are willing to be open and receptive to it.  Please keep sending your squares to the Indivisible Project.

Indivisible: Sarah Krause

I am pleased to present square number 55, another wonderful work created by Sarah Krause of the  New Haven Friends Meeting stitch group:

I enjoy the formal aspects of this work, the rationality of it (during an irrational period in our country) as well as the reference to artist Piet Mondrian. Mondrian had an interest in the spiritual and philosophical, and he explained his work in a letter written in 1914: "...I construct lines and color combinations on a flat surface, in order to express general beauty with the utmost awareness. Nature (or, that which I see) inspires me, puts me, as with any painter, in an emotional state so that an urge comes about to make something, but I want to come as close as possible to the truth and abstract everything from that, until I reach the foundation (still just an external foundation!) of things…"

Indivisible: Valerie Graham Butler - art workshop

I am proud to present square number 54 created by Los Angeles friend and artist Valerie Graham Butler's 4-year old daughter, Madeline:

Madeline and her twin brother participated in their mom's art workshop alongside other friends and their families.  I was honored that they got together to make work for my project.  They also stopped by my studio to personally deliver their wonderful squares.  The children made more than one, and I will post all of their pieces.  Please keep sending your squares to the Indivisible Project.
